Out Cross (Hairy) kittens/cats $500. to $700
Retired Show/Breeder $700. Show/Breeder Kittens $2500 to 3500 Price of kitten will include first vaccinations, deworming, veterinary exams given before placement and TICA/CFA papers. Kittens also leave with a written Health Guarantee and contract signed by seller and buyer. Shipping costs are extra. I provide carrier if needed and Health Certificate/contract. Why are kittens so expensive? I get asked this all the time and have decided to put this down for you to read. While Back Yard Breeders and Pet shops may make money selling kittens most legitimate breeders do not even come close to their own costs. It is very expensive hobby. Most of us wish we could break even. What also happens with Back Yard Breeds and Pet Shop is that once the kitten leaves them you are on your own. The kittens are sold too young. Short cuts on care may of taken place and no written health guarantee that covers even HCM. These people see how much the kittens cost and want to try to make a fast buck. We do this for the love of the breed. I honestly hate to even bring up all the expenses and many breeders are the same. The costs are often hidden from friends and family. Whit it comes up it is often pointed out that you are in “the red”. Guess this is why many of us spend more money on our cats than ourselves. Lol Lets explore this further. As an example, buying top show quality female with breeding rights cost $2000 to $3500. Our cats come from excellent bloodlines, temperament, type and health. The beautiful wee ones you see here come from quality cats. It all starts with the parents. Maintenance, supplies, heart scans, x-rays, blood tests and veterinary care generally cost breeders about $1000 per cat the 1st year. By the time a cat is first bred at about a year old or older in some cases the breeder will have invested several thousand dollars. Top quality food/vitamins and kitty litter per month just for adults runs hundreds of dollars depending on how many cats you have. Kitten shots cost breeders little and that is great if there are no problems to be treated. The slightest reaction can cost $200 to $1000 per kitten. Kittens stay with us usually for 4 months and have to be fed top quality food cuddled and cleaned-up-after for that entire time. I stay at home and do this. I am very lucky and know that. I am also available 24/7 to anyone that has kitten and cat questions. Parts of the house are specialized to fit the needs of the cats. Stud rooms, play room and a nursery are part of the cattery. This can be very expensive to do in a home and is well over $20,000. Now, if all goes well fat happy kittens are born but there are always disasters and worries such as C-Sections that run $750 and up. Sometimes after all the time and money spent on a cat is found to be infertile. Good breeders that want to do it right make a huge investment of money and time to bring to you health and happy kittens. When you have the right facilities and quality cats your work will shine through. Pet Shops and Back Yard Breeders do have a profit. They cut corners by – Not having quality cats as parents, Not showing, Not feeding quality chow, Not keeping kittens until proper age or providing proper prenatal and kitten veterinary care, also note that they charge (especially Pet Shops) close to what a quality breeder does. The quality breeders make big sacrifices in their personal lives and shed buckets of tears in trying to create a successful breeding program. Back Yard Breeders take your money and are gone. You maybe excited over the money you think you saved and maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that kitten has no issues with their health. But you may as many have shared with us have big bills and lots of heartache. True breeders deserve more credit than the general public gives them. The public unfortunately hears about the negative side. News programs are geared to share bad news and spread awareness. The horror stories we have all seen on dateline or other news sources telling the story of a BYB. Those situations do happen sadly but the good responsible breeders get thrown in the mix and are looked down upon even though they are doing their best. There is no gold watch or pension for being a person that has spent their lifetime working with their breed of cat or dog. The reward is seeing a wonderful kitten grow up to be a credit to its breed, be adored by its family and live a long wonderful life. We look for people that appreciate the decades of endless time and effort by many that goes into consistently producing animals that breed true to type. We love getting photos and emails from all of you that allow us to know how much our cats are loved and taken care of. The costs associated with proper nutrition, vet care, health testing, out crossing and showing are all reflected in the price. Don’t be fooled by what seems like a bargain because in reality with Sphynx you get what you pay for. There are numerous ethical and wonderful sphinx breeders available but sadly there have also popped up some that care more about their own pocket book than the welfare of the cats/kittens and their potential owners. Be very careful and wary if you see bargain prices; those kittens that were bought at a cheaper price usually cost hundreds more in vet bills; or offering too-young kittens and no contracts or health guarantee which also should cover HCM. All good breeders provide contracts, which protect you and the cats welfare both and are happy to discuss with you the progress of the cats for years to come. Visiting Us You are welcome to come and see us and met our adults. Kittens can not have visitors until they are 6 to 8 weeks old. We are happy to share our passion!! Purchasing a Show/Breeder Kitten Bare Booty Sphynx only sells babies with breeding rights to reputable breeders or someone who is wanting to become a reputable breeder. If you are newer you have to be willing to be mentored by us. Expect us to ask what lines you work with any time you inquire about a breeder. We do not place without knowing all the lines you work with. We do not sell to persons who just want to breed once “to get their money back” or “just for fun”. There are too many kittens/cats in shelters that need homes and we will not participate in making the problem worse. We breed to better the Sphynx breed and to strengthen the bloodlines of these amazing cats.
We also donate time to help place feral and problem cats into homes. We also donate to animal “no kill” welfare organizations.
